After spending $9-million of your city taxes last year on a failed effort to overhaul Austin’s land development code, the city council will once again begin the process today. City Manager Spencer Cronk has said the only way he’ll go along with this is if council gets very specific about the changes it wants.
The land code rewrite could upend commercial and residential rules. The council also hopes a change to the code would facilitate the construction of tens of thousands of new subsidized housing units over the next decade.
