City of Austin/ Travis County considering funding the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team

After losing it federal funding, the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team program which supports mental health calls with Austin police is looking for local dollars.

The 1.9 million dollar cost would be split between Austin and Travis County. With the city bearing the brunt. Councilmember Houston’s idea of a one year commitment got some support from District 6’s Jimmy Flannigan but with less money that what MCOT wanted.

Some on council are supportive of the program, and a 75-thousand dollar study to better it.
