The results of this year’s “Point in Time” homeless headcount are still pending, but the total number of people still living on Austin streets is expected to rise once again.
The Ending Community Homelessness Coalition predicts at least 100 more people counted this year than last year, which also saw a 5-percent rise from 2017.
The total number counted last year was 2147, and while the official tally is not in yet from ECHO, or the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition, it’s projected that about 100 more people were counted this year.
ECHO Executive Director Ann Howard said the issue could also be tied to people re-entering homelessness after receiving support services previously.
