Immigrant groups concerned over proposed “Citizenship Question” on census

US Census

The US Supreme Court heard arguments about asking someone’s citizenship status on the upcoming census.

Immigrants and Latinos in the Austin area are worried about a citizenship question on the 2020 Census that President Trump wants.

Austin League of United Latin American Citizens’ Manuel Alejandro Munoz said, “It’s well known that people will be less likely to answer these questions or to even fill out the census. In fear that ICE might show up at people’s doorsteps.” Munoz sees the question as an attack on  immigrants nationwide adding it breeds mistrust  with the government.

Nevertheless he said if people don’t respond to the census, it could disrupt representation and appropriations that benefit their communities.
