Dear Lamar Middle School Families,
At approximately 10:05 a.m., our campus was evacuated for one hour after a student sprayed pepper spray in a hallway. School officials immediately contacted the Austin Fire Department and Austin ISD police, who located the student and confiscated the item.

AFD and AISD police cleared the school and the campus resumed normal operations.
Approximately 20 students were evaluated by Austin-Travis County Emergency
Medical Services after being exposed to the spray. All students were cleared by EMS
and returned to classes.

The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. I would like to use this
opportunity to remind our Lamar Middle School families about the dangers of
students bringing certain items, including pepper spray, to school. Possession of any
type of weapon—including pepper spray is a serious violation of the AISD Student
Code of Conduct.

Please review with your students the Code of Conduct, which outlines items not
allowed on school property. This will help us ensure the future safety of all our
students and staff members.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 512-
414-3217. As always, we thank you for your support of Lamar Middle School.

Sincerely,
Interim Principal Mayra Mondik
Lamar Middle School
