Nurses in the Leander school district have a new tool to assist students with allergic reactions:
August 16 is the first day of school and thanks to a unanimous approval this summer by the school board, nurses will have on hand unassigned epinephrine injectors, also known as Epipens, in the event of something like an anaphylactic event.
If an Epipen is needed, the nurse will administer it and then EMS and parents would be called, and the student transported to a hospital for care. Each campus will have four injectors apiece.
