Leander ISD hasn’t actually had to partake in recapture, or the process in which property wealthy districts send hundreds of millions of dollars to the state to be given to poorer districts.
District Chief Financial Officer Lucas Janda said House Bill 3 is changing the allotment of per-student funding, meaning the district could skate on any recapture payment for another two years.
The district has been preparing for recapture for the past couple of years sine property values have been rising as student growth has slowed.
