LISD nurses have new tool to assist students with allergic reactions

The first day of school is less than two weeks away in Leander, and this year the district is helping protect any student who has a severe allergic reaction.  The district’s Brad Mansfield said nurses will have a new tool at their disposal.

Nurses will have on hand unassigned epinephrine injectors, also known as Epipens, in the event of something like an anaphylactic event.  They can administer them to any student who may not have a prescription.

Both parents and EMS will be notified and the student will be taken to the hospital for treatment.  Each campus will have four EpiPens on hand.

Mansfield says nurses are already prepared with a comprehensive training plan.
