A man wanted on multiple violent felony warrants was arrested by Kyle Police early Sunday morning after being located in a vehicle that had been stolen during an armed robbery in Austin.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on July 27, a Kyle Police officer observed a van driving erratically and nearly causing a collision. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had recently been reported to the Austin Police Department as stolen at gunpoint.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to comply, resisted arrest, and assaulted officers during the encounter. He was ultimately taken into custody.
The suspect, Paul Anthony Candanoza, 31, of Manor, had five active warrants:
• Robbery out of Caldwell County
• Three counts of Assault of Family/Household Member with Previous Conviction out of Travis County
• Assault Causing Bodily Injury out of Travis County
In addition to the outstanding warrants, Candanoza now faces 13 additional charges from the Kyle Police Department related to the incident:
• Assault on a Peace Officer
• Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Prohibited Substance/Item in a Correctional Facility
• Tampering with Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair
• Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Evading Arrest with a Vehicle
• Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
• Violation of Bond/Protective Order
• Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transport
• Interference with Public Duties
• Driving While Intoxicated
• Possession of Marijuana
• Failure to Identify Fugitive from Justice
The Austin Police Department has been notified and will continue the investigation into the original armed robbery.
