Homeless spending in Austin is will be just under $30-million under the new budget, but that’s still $30-million less than the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition said is needed to make a dent.  Executive Director Ann Howard says we’ll need $60-million every year for the foreseeable future.

The new budget includes $3.4-million more than last year.

The city will spend $600,000 on programs teaching homeless people alternatives to panhandling.
