The Austin City Council wants to renew its "Recycled Reads" program

Austin taxpayers are footing the bill for a little known city-run bookstore…

Less than two years after the opening of the $126-million Central Library, the Austin City Council wants to extend funding for a city-run bookstore — think of it as a government-run Half Price Books.  Former District 8 council member Ellen Troxclair feels its a waste of tax dollars, and a real threat to private business.

If the extension passes muster at City Hall, taxpayers will continue to be on the hook for $310,000 a year, every year, to fund the Burnet Road store’s operations.
