The Commission on Public School Finance is recommending paying the state’s best teachers $100,000 a year for meeting certain criteria, like working on at-risk campuses for example. Education Commissioner Mike Morath said that’s where education is, at times, most vital.
Lawmakers are considering creating a new fund solely for that teacher pay, which would grow over the years. The fund would have a $100-million foundation, with an additional $100-million added each year until it reaches $1-billion.
