Update: 3:00pm
The Lower Colorado River Authority says it will not be opening up four additional Flood Gates at the Mansfield dam. Not today a least. Officials say they may still need to open up more gates in the next few days and are keeping an eye on the weather for now.
Lake Travis is reaching record breaking water levels above and is expected to reach 710 feet.
That has the Lower Colorado River Authority considering opening up four more flood gates by Thursday afternoon at the Mansfeild dam. If so this would make for a total of eight open flood gates, LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson warned this would mean higher water levels downstream.
Wilson said Homeowners near the water should take heed and secure their homes and get themselves out of harms way. Other area officials say this should include securing your boats. Even PETA is chiming in reminding pet owners near the water to not leave animals trapped in cages as flood waters near and have a plan on what to do with them.
City of Austin officials warn, if the Mansfield Dam has 8 flood gates opened they would need to close Lamar at Cesar Chavez and Pleasant Valley near the Longhorn Dam.
