A last minute amendment to Austin’s Office of Police Oversight ordinance gives the office more power, and reason for activists to celebrate. Grassroots Leadership’s Chris Harris it opens up the department. He explained it prioritizes transparency and public release of everything that the OPO has that can be legally released. It gives the OPO the power to access Records and files directly. Harris believes this will ensure, timely access as well as full and complete access to the information.
But Harris added, this is only a stepping stone to activists who want to see more. He said more will be coming.
