Texas is closer to getting rid of daylight savings time

Texans are closer than ever to not having to change the clocks twice a year.

State Representative Lyle Larson authored the constitutional amendment calling the time change, “Nonsensical in a modern society. The amendment would allow Texans vote on whether to permanently switch to either daylight savings or standard time. The House gave preliminary approval.

State Rep John Smithee’s amendment to allow voters a third option to not change anything was rejected, despite his argument if Texas did not keep the time change, it would change up what time college football games would be televised and in some cases be eliminated. If the amendment gets its final approval, Voters would have their say in November. If passed by voters the time change change would take effect on January 1st.
