The Texas Senate approved a 2-year cool off period for State Senators and Representatives looking to be paid lobbyists.
State Sen. Brandon Creighton’s SB13 says any retiring Texas lawmaker who becomes a paid lobbyist before that two-year mark would be committing a class A misdemeanor.
Right now there is no waiting period. Lt. Governor Dan Patrick said this sets a clear ethical standard for lawmakers.
The bill now goes to the Texas house. Similiar bills have died in recent legislative sessions.
