- The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority board of directors are to consider raising the speed limit on MoPac express lanes tomorrow
- The proposal looks to change the speed limit from 65mph to 70mph in the express lanes while also requiring a minimum speed limit of 55mph
- It will not however, include construction zones, reduced speed zones or times of bad weather
- To find suggested limits for the express lanes, CTRMA conducted a speed zone study
- The study found drivers who use the express lanes are frustrated having to pay for the express lanes which are often slower than non-express lanes
- CTRMA says the proposal would help reduce crashes, increase the number of cars that can drive on the express lane at one time, and make commuting on the lanes much faster
- New speed limits will go into effect as soon as signs are installed if the board approves the resolution
- The cost for traffic control, construction inspections, and to buy and place the news signs will be around $80,000
