The Austin Community College District (ACC) is preparing its campuses in the event of an emergency with a series of drills this weekd, running through Sunday, September 16.
The college designates the third week of each semester as Emergency Preparedness Week to educate students, faculty, and staff on the best actions to take if an emergency or disaster were to happen on campus.
The college will conduct building evacuation drills at select campuses, test the ACC Emergency Alert System districtwide, and promote ACC emergency procedures.
“Safety is a critical area for colleges and universities nationwide. It’s one of our top priorities,” says Dr. Wayne Maines, ACC vice president of safety and operations. “These drills give people an opportunity to prepare for an emergency and familiarize themselves with evacuation procedures.”
ACC will test its Emergency Alert System on Wednesday, September 12. During the test, all available emergency communication methods will be activated including the system that sends e-mail and text alerts to all registered email accounts and devices.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to check and update their emergency contact information by logging into the RAVE Mobile Safety web site using their ACCeID and password.
