Three people are dead and 14 others are wounded after a mass shooting outside a bar on Sixth Street, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is confirmed dead after joint U.S. and Israeli airstrikes were carried out over the weekend and self-driving taxi company Waymo has yet to respond to backlash from a video showing one of its autonomous vehicles blocking Austin first responders from getting to the scene of a mass shooting.
Tuesday 3/3:
Dozens of Texas lawmakers are calling on Congress to put a full pause on immigration following the mass shooting in Austin over the weekend, voting in the Democrat and Republican primaries in the U.S. Senate election in Texas begins today and a Houston area parent has filed a federal lawsuit over school vouchers claiming they discriminate on the basis of religion.
Wednesday 3/4:
State Rep. James Talarico has defeated Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democrat primary for the U.S. Senate seat in Texas while current U.S. Senator John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will head to a runoff for the Republican side, Republican Congressman Chip Roy and Texas state senator Mayes Middleton will head to a runoff election for the Texas Attorney General seat and Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza has released a statement saying his office is not seeking charges against the three Austin police officers involved in taking down the mass shooter in Austin this past weekend.
Thursday 3/5:
A new report from Austin’s city auditor shows the city spends way more money on I.T. staff than most cities its size do as well as employing far more staff than those cities, Austin Pets Alive is asking for donations after dozens of puppies and dogs contracted parvovirus and the Williamson County Elections Office says some votes cast during Tuesday’s extended hours at two polling locations may not be counted.
Friday 3/6:
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis has sent a memo outlining updated guidelines regarding how APD officers interact with ICE agents, the Austin Police Department has released 911 audio and body cam footage of the recent mass shooting on Sixth Street and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is hinting at dropping out of the U.S. Senate race to make a clear pathway for incumbent John Cornyn.
