House Bill 3439 would prevent Austin from requiring a labor peace agreement as a condition of engaging in a “commercial transaction with the municipality.”

Former Austin city Council member Ellen Troxclair said the City of Austin’s current requirement for such an agreement provides significant leverage to unions, but not the private sector.

Austin’s current policy is to require that any business must first have an agreement with a labor union to oversee things like wages and working conditions.
