Austin school district projects to lose 7200 students over the next decade

Charter schools have become one of the biggest hurdles the Austin school district faces in reversing a yearly enrollment decline.  Rocky Gardiner with Templeton Demographics said there are 46 charter campuses within AISD’s boundaries.

Gardiner said kindergarten is seeing the lion’s share of enrollment declines right now, but middle schools will soon take the top spot.

This year alone, charters scooped up nearly 15,000 AISD students.
