For the second time in less than 24 hours, the Austin Fire Department has had to respond to a small blaze at McCallum High School’s Fine Arts Center.
Monday’s blaze was quickly put out by a student with a fire extinguisher. It started when a curtain was draped over stage lighting, according to AFD. 40-50 students were in the center at the time of Monday’s fire. One was treated at the scene but was not taken to the hospital.
Early Tuesday morning, a second stage fire was reported at the high school, and again the fire department was dispatched. Crews were able to put it out and, as of 7:30 a.m., were still working on clearing the room of smoke.
No injuries were reported in the second fire, and school officials say classes will not be affected.
