Austin resident Richard Overton, the oldest living WWII veteran has died.
Overton, who had been hospitalized with Pneumonia died in an Austin rehab facility. Overton was born in Bastrop in 1906 and served three years in the Army during WWII. He spent the majority of his life in east Austin in a home he built in 1945. He credited his longevity to God but said cigars and whiskey helped. Overton was 112-years-old.
