Austin Police push for more pay

The Austin Police Association is standing by its recent assessment of officer pay, which runs counter to the numerous claims Mayor Steve Adler has made that police in Austin are among the highest paid in the state.  The union’s chief negotiator Ron DeLord says they’ve looked at several factors that prove Adler wrong.

A recent study from Angelou Economics shows when you consider Austin’s cost of living and housing Austin police are below San Antonio at every level. The study also says at the current rate, an officer would have to work at APD for 16-years just to afford a single-family home.

DeLord says he’s frustrated by what he feels is a yearly issue of getting put on the backburner as other city staffers and councilmembers get pay raises.
