As the Austin City Council debates how exactly to use the land in North Austin known as McKalla Place, the group MLS2ATX has released conceptual renderings of a possible affordable housing development to compliment a potential Major League Soccer stadium.
The council will take a look at more than one resolution on Thursday, one of which could set the stage for negotiations with Precourt Sports Ventures to bring the Columbus Crew team to Austin, along with a stadium, and the other could lead the city manager to seek out bidders for other projects, such as mixed-use developments
“Precourt Sports Ventures’ vision is to create a true partnership with the City of Austin at McKalla Place, revitalizing an unused site to generate the greatest community benefit. In addition to direct financial contributions to Foundation Communities and other organizations, we mentioned in our proposal that we would discuss and examine the possibility of future on-site affordable housing with Foundation Communities at McKalla Place because we know what an important issue this is in Austin. With our design team at Gensler, we are pleased to present a conceptual rendering of how affordable housing could fit on the property. We think Foundation Communities would be the right partner and developer for this part of the overall project.”
-Richard Suttle, attorney for Precourt Sports Ventures
“We appreciate Precourt Sports Ventures’ commitment to affordable housing in Austin and look forward to continued discussions. Their willingness to help fund our Waters Park site in North Austin and their open mindedness to the possibility of affordable housing going onsite at McKalla Place shows what kind of partner they would be for the City and this community.”
-Walter Moreau, executive director, Foundation Communities
