Steve Adler, Mayor of Austin, has filed his second campaign finance report of the re-election cycle. His report showed a record number of contributors for a report filed nearly four months before Election Day – more than 1,400, bringing his total number of contributors to just over 2,400. The contributions on this report totaled more than $292,000, bringing his total raised for the entire election to $574,666.13.
“This is a people-powered campaign with no business entity, PAC, or bundled money,” Adler said. “I’m ready to continue the work of tackling our biggest challenges while standing up for the city we all love.”
“This is an unprecedented fundraising effort,” said Laura Hernandez, Deputy Campaign Manager and Finance Director. “60{d9298e16fbff8ff2d9e84a8934eb00b21cf3ccd1154c522a6781c70a3ad80f68} of our donors didn’t give to the campaign in 2014, and many of them are donating to a municipal campaign for the very first time.”
Adler’s war chest is far larger than his opponent, former Austin City Council member Laura Morrison, whose campaign took in $120,294, including $92,294 in donations from more than 600 individual contributions..
“It’s clear that this mayoral race is going to be a David versus Goliath battle. I may not have my opponent’s personal real estate wealth and special interest money, but what my campaign does have is Austinites from all walks of life ready to fight for the community they love,” Morrison said. “It’s time for a change in Austin and a mayor who will put community interests over special interests. I’m the right woman at the right time to lead our city.”
