The Austin Police Department wants New Years Celebrants to make sure they have a safe way home when you are done celebrating the New Year.
APD’s Lt Chris Gwaldo says that could be a sober designated driver, a cab, the bus or rideshare.
He also asks pedestrians and drivers alike observe and obey traffic laws, especially because of the number of people expected downtown. There will be several street closures in the downtown area tonight because of the number of people expected to ring in the New Year. Those will be primarily around the sixth street district and around Auditorium Shores.
