On Friday, August 8, 2025, at approximately 6:46 p.m., Austin Police Department officers responded to a call about a shooting at the Booker T. Washington apartment complex at 2609 Rosewood Avenue. Officers arrived and located a male, later identified as Michael Atwood, in an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound. Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services attempted life-saving measures, but Atwood was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, a juvenile girl was with her current boyfriend, 17-year-old Douglas Clyde, at the time of the shooting. Clyde reportedly saw the ex-boyfriend, Michael Atwood, and allegedly shot and killed him, then left the area.

On August 11, 2025, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force/Tactical Intelligence Unit located and arrested Clyde in Manor on a first-degree murder warrant.

This case is being investigated as Austin’s 38th homicide of 2025.
