Towing companies may soon charge more to clear a vehicle from private property:
The city recently approved raising the tow fees for city-contracted companies, but private companies were left out. But that may soon change now that the Urban Transportation Commission has recommended the council approve a new rate of $185. APD Detective Sonia Lopez-Eads listed the current rates as:
City of Austin: $150
Local metropolitan:$212.73
Major Texas City Average: $199
The price increase would reflect the consumer price index and rising cost of living. The city council will vote on this recommendation later in the year.
