Austin’s Watershed Protection department is launching a new competition aimed at students in grades 6–12 from Austin and surrounding areas, calling on them to enter the 2026 Flood Safety Video Contest.
According to the city, students will create a short video — no longer than 30 seconds — that shares the message “Turn Around – Don’t Drown” when roads are flooded. Videos can be in any language, and students may work individually or in teams.
The deadline is March 25, 2026.
Winners will receive a prize and be honored at Flood Safety Fest on April 18. Entries will be judged on creativity, clarity, and impact, the city said.
“Austin lies in the heart of Flash Flood Alley, and flood safety education can save lives,” said Jorge Morales, Austin Watershed Protection Director.
