From January to May, the Chief’s monthly crime report shows an overall 2-percent decline in crime in general. But a breakdown of the numbers shows Austin’s trend of rising violent crime is continuing. The report shows a 79-percent increase in murders and a 15-percent increase in aggravated assault. For the month of May specifically, murders took a 500-percent jump upward.
