Earlier this year, the Texas Broadband Development Office awarded Bastrop County a grant under the Bringing Online Opportunities to Texas (BOOT II) program. This week, the county announced that Highline, a leading fiber-to-premise internet service provider, will deploy high‑speed fiber‑to‑the‑home services for 10,471 previously unserved homes and businesses.

“This significant investment cements Bastrop County’s commitment to closing the digital divide,” said Adena Lewis, Director of Tourism and Economic Development. “Access to reliable, high‑speed internet is vital for education, healthcare, business, and community well‑being.”

The county credits a collaboration between various departments, groups, and nonprofits for closing the digital divide in Bastrop County.

“We are honored to receive this $43 million broadband grant from the State of Texas and the $11 million matching investment from Highline. This total investment isn’t just about internet service – it’s about opportunity. Expanding broadband countywide will ensure our students can learn, our businesses can grow, and our residents can stay connected in an increasingly digital world. Bastrop County is ready to move forward, and this grant makes that possible” said Commissioner David Glass, Precinct 4 Bastrop County Commissioner.
