The City of Austin says proponents of an efficiency audit of the city are breaking the law by using so-called ‘dark money’ to fund their campaign before the petition was city-certified. Attorney Fred Lewis helped draft the dark money ordinance and said that’s not the intention of the ordinance and besides, that’s not the point. He said the real issue is, does the city need a performance audit.
Lewis said despite attempts to make this issue divisive along party lines, an efficiency audit enjoys bi-lateral support.
