Cleanup crews got first-hand look at the spread of zebra mussels in Lake Travis

Over the past 24 years, more than 125 tons of trash has been hauled out of Lake Travis, but this year’s annual cleanup brought with it something new: loads of zebra mussels attached to virtually everything taken from the water.  Travis County Conservation Coordinator Shaun Auckland tells Spectrum News this changes what they’re able to do with all of the cans.

She and other organizers say they had no idea just how bad the spread of the mussels had gotten.  All of the trash with the mussels attached will have to be taken to the landfill instead.
