The Eanes ISD Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to name Kirk Koennecke as the next Superintendent of Schools. He will succeed interim superintendent Dr. Tom Trigg, who has led the district since Dr. Jeff Arnett retired in July.
“Mr. Koennecke’s depth of experience, commitment to students and proven record of strategic leadership make him an exceptional fit for our community,” said Board President Kim McMath. “Throughout this process, it was clear he brings both a strong vision for the future and a genuine appreciation for the traditions that make our district special. We are confident that under his guidance, Eanes ISD will continue to thrive and excel.”
A veteran educator with 30 years of service, Koennecke has worked at every level of public education, district officials said. His career includes roles as teacher, coach, advisor, union representative, assistant principal, athletic director, principal and CEO. He has authored numerous articles and presented at national education conferences.
“I am truly honored to join the Eanes ISD community and grateful for the Board’s confidence in my leadership,” said Koennecke. “Eanes ISD is known across the state and nation for its dedication to excellence, and I look forward to partnering with our teachers and staff, our families and community to build upon that strong foundation and continue to create meaningful opportunities that inspire all students to grow, achieve and succeed.”
Koennecke holds an Education Specialist degree from Wright State University; a Master of Arts in Education Administration from John Carroll University; a Master of Science in Sports Administration from Miami University (Ohio); and a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati and volunteers as a trustee on several governance boards, including the Ohio State University College of Education Alumni Board.
Koennecke’s start date is Jan. 1, 2026.
