The Texas Department of Transportation joined county and local officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of the US 183 Frontage Roads project. This project will add two non-tolled, grade-separated lanes on each side of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority’s 183A Toll between RM 1431 and Avery Ranch Boulevard. A new shared-use path will also be constructed on the northbound side of the roadway, connecting to the existing trailhead.

“This is an exciting day as we celebrate the start of a construction project that will address congestion, improve safety and enhance mobility for this fast-growing area of Williamson County,” TxDOT Austin District Engineer Tucker Ferguson said. “We are breaking ground on a project that will transform transportation in Cedar Park, creating more flexibility and opportunity for the city’s future development.”

It’s taken a lot of hard work from a lot of folks to get here today,” said Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long. “Thanks for the tenacity of the folks at TxDOT, Cedar Park, CTRMA, and CAMPO to keep this project on track.”

“This is designed with safety and long-term efficiency in mind, improving access, reducing conflict points, and helping us move more people, more safely, in our growing city,” said Cedar Park Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin.

“This is a fantastic improvement for mobility and for economic development for Cedar Park, for Austin, and for Williamson County and all of us,” said Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) Executive Director Ashby Johnson.

Construction on the $139 million project began in July and is anticipated to complete in 2029, weather permitting.
