A memorial service was held Saturday for former Austin Mayor Gus Garcia. Current Mayor Steve Adler says Garcia’s fingerprints are all over the things that make Austin a great place to live and work. Garcia was Austin’s first elected Hispanic Mayor and was the first Hispanic to serve on the Austin School District Board. He died on December 17 at the age of 84.
