Homeless squatters pack downtown condos

Police have arrested numerous homeless people for squatting in a condo building in downtown Austin that has been vacant since 2017.
People living near the Villas on Town Lake say the building is full of trash and balconies have become eyesores, and Ann Howard with the Ending Community Community Homelessness Coalition told KVUE it’s a sign Austin isn’t doing enough. Howard has said for years that Austin needs to spend at least $60-million a year on homelessness.  Later this month, ECHO will conduct it’s annual homeless headcount. More than $30-million of Austin’s budget already goes toward homeless services.
