The Lake Travis Independent School District says there is an increased presence of law enforcement on the Lake Travis High School campus due to a potential threat.
The following letter was sent to parents from principal Gordon Butler:
Dear Lake Travis High School Parents and Guardians,
Taking into consideration the influx of tips received through our Cavs Who Care Tip Line as well as social media activity occurring late last night and into the early morning hours today, I am writing to let you know that I am aware of the rumors and ongoing conversations of a potential threat to Lake Travis High School today, Thursday, February 7. This letter is to inform you of what we are doing to respond to this matter.
This information has been reported to law enforcement officials who are presently investigating the matter. As you can appreciate, the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement will have an increased presence on our campus today. We take these matters seriously and will continue to investigate all tips and any information we receive.
I am also aware that concerns remain about the assault on our teacher which occurred earlier in the week. I want to be clear that these are two separate and unrelated matters.
Please continue to stress with your children the importance of immediately reporting any information or suspicious activity to an adult. I encourage you to continue sending your child to school. Together, we will do everything possible to protect our children and foster a safe learning environment for all students.
Sincerely,
Gordon Butler
Principal
