Kyle Man Arrested for Alleged Fraudulent Auto Sales, Purchases

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection to alleged fraudulent sales and purchases of vehicles. According to officials, Joseph Browning, 49, of Kyle was arrested following a year-long joint investigation.

Browning had previously been under investigation for fraud involving the sale and purchase of vehicles for several years, leading to the revocation of his license to operate a motor vehicle dealership. Despite that, authorities say he continued to conduct business through social media platforms, including Facebook Marketplace.

He was arrested after leaving his auto repair business on Rohde Road in an unincorporated area of Kyle.

Browning now faces five counts of forgery of a government instrument and three counts of forgery of a financial instrument, as well as charges of first-degree felony theft, third-degree felony theft, injury to a child reckless bodily injury, and injury to a child intentional bodily injury.

Additional charges could still be filed. He remains in the Hays County Jail on a bond of $1,023,000.
