With SXSW kicking off later this week, the Texas Legislature and school still in session, this Friday (March 8th) is expected to be one of the worst traffic days of the year in Austin.
That’s why Capital Metro, Movability Austin, the Downtown Austin Alliance and Lyft have teamed up to turn Friday into Ditch Day. Where they ask Austinites to ditch their personal vehicles and try a different mode of transportation as they go about their business.
That could be car pooling, taking public transit, shifting your work hours or taking a Lyft, which is offering two 25{a77561a3d577901ee15dca150fea59fe3467aeb2007c1dd097ee2f4c696e6096} discounted shared Lyft rides per passenger that uses the discount code “DITCHDAY” on March 8th.
Movability Austin’s Lisa Kay Pfannenstiel said there is no one size fits all answer to easing traffic in Austin but added that’s why there are several options to mobility.
She explained it would be unreasonable for anyone to advocate a commuter to change every single day of how they got to work. But believes if everyone changed how they to and from work once a week, it could drastically improve Austin’s traffic.
