New Republic Studio’s first film heads to Sundance

Sundance Film Festival

A young Austin area film studio’s first film was accepted to the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.
New Republic Studio’s President Mindy Raymond said they co-produced the indie film “Sister Aimee,” a story about a famous evangelist in the 20s who gets caught up in her lover’s dreams about Mexico and finds herself on a road trip to the border. Raymond said this was an excellent result in their first foray into producing a film.
At the Festival, networks and production companies look for their next project, make connections and even buy movies. Raymond said the studio is thrilled about getting accepted to the festival giving the studio exposure, experience, and chance to meet with and build relationships.
Back at the studio though, Raymond continued, the film was a bit of a test run to see how it could work in their business model. Raymond said they are willing to help produce film again, but is going to be selective in what, pledging to build a film fund in the coming years. She explained in the mean time, it business as usual helping bring more productions to Texas by keeping the lights on for others who need a place to film.
