In the wake of a recent bridge strike by a large truck towing an excavator, the Texas Department of Transportation has announced nightly closures of the southbound I-35 mainlanes at SH 29 for repairs The Williams Drive entrance ramp will also be closed.
Through Thursday, Sept. 18, traffic will be detoured off of the mainlanes and onto the southbound I-35 frontage road between 9 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Crews are making repairs on the interior beams of the SH 29/W. University bridge. The work is anticipated to take 4-5 weeks to complete. Once complete, the eastbound lanes of SH 29 will reopen.
Additionally, two beams will be replaced. The timeline for that replacement is not yet known.
