The amount of oil the US imports continues to drop thanks to strong oil production domestically, led by Texas. Jonathan Cogan with the Energy Information Institute says in 2018 we imported 2.5 million barrels a day and 2019 will be much lower, possibly dropping to around one million barrels a day.
In fact, that’s the lowest point since the Eisenhower administration when the US had half the population.
