Heavy rain and high winds overnight left behind a big mess and quite a bit of flooding.

Rescue crews performed numerous water rescues as creeks and streams spilled over their banks.  Two cars were washed downstream on Bull Creek after trying to drive around a barricade at Spicewood Springs Road.  Both drivers were later rescued.

Early Thursday morning, a Travis County deputy found herself trapped by high waters, as well.  The deputy was reportedly headed to a rescue call in Manor when her patrol car was overtaken by water.  She managed to climb on top of the car until help arrived.  The person she was headed to save clung to a tree.  Both were hoisted to safety by STAR Flight.

At one point, more than 140 low-water crossings were closed.

Austin Energy said approximately 7000 of its customers lost power due to the storms, but crews were able to get their service turned back on.

Once waters receded a bit in Elgin, Bluebonnet Electric crews were also able to respond to outages that affected roughly 130 of its members.

It’s expected that Onion Creek at 183 and Barton Creek at 360 will both reach minor flood stage Thursday before the waters finally recede.

Austin will remain under a flood warning until 1:00 a.m. Friday morning.
