Teacher’s union: More money needed for East Austin schools

The push resumes for more funding for schools in East Austin.

Austin’s employee and teacher’s union, Education Austin, says most of the city’s underperforming schools are in East Austin and therefore, almost by default, need to be given a leg up compared to kids in West Austin.  Ken Zarifis is the president of Education Austin says people who grew up with little need more now than students who have grown up with parents who have given them more tools to be successful.

However, the Austin school district already pumps thousands more into under-performing schools.  As an example, at Mendez Middle School alone, AISD spends $13,000 per student.
