Test results on algae in Lady Bird Lake could be available today. The testing is trying to determine if the algae is producing neurotoxins that may be responsible for several pet deaths. The lake is still closed to pets and part of the area is now closed to people. Assistant City Manager Ray Arellano said they’ve closed Red Bud Isle due to 40{fbcf2a5c42fe71624047a18c73673849799bd5d53cdb5d8ca16f4833367ca63d} of the water area covered with the algae, it also tends to build up on shorelines and areas with little to no water flow.
Arellano reiterates that it is still illegal to swim in Lady Bird Lake.
Officials say there’s always algae in the lake, but this kind of toxic algae is something new.
