Voting in Travis County next election should be more secure thanks to new technology Commissioners approved. Today Commissioners approved spending over $750 thousand dollars on a new voter registration system. They also approved spending about as much on a new E-Poll Book System. Chief Deputy County Clerk Ron Morgan explains what that means. “An E-Poll Book system is what we use at the polling place to check voters in or to qualify voters.”

Morgan says the new system would be tablet-based, like an iPad, which is supposed to get voters checked in quicker and more securely. “And what we’re looking to do is to simply enhance the voter’s experience at the polling place from the moment they walk in the door to the moment they cast their ballot.” Morgan says the new system is state-of-the-art. “(It) really allows us to leverage current technology, so that we can use industry-standard security measures and do everything that we can to assure the voters confidence when they come to the polling place.” Last year the County bought a new voting system and it all should be up and running by this Fall.
