In 2024, excessive speed contributed to traffic crashes that resulted in 1,467 fatalities on Texas roads. That’s why the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)’s Be Safe. Drive Smart. campaign is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the state in Operation Slowdown, a high visibility speed limit enforcement period. From July 18 through Aug. 3, officers will focus extra attention on motorists driving too fast to remind them that you make a choice when you speed.
TxDOT’s “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” speeding awareness efforts also combine a statewide advertising campaign with an events tour featuring interactive exhibits that showcase the dangers of unsafe speed.
