The Texas Department of Transportation will mark the start of construction of the SH 71 at Tucker Hill Lane project with a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
The project will address congestion, enhance safety, and improve mobility along SH 71 by constructing a new overpass on SH 71 over the existing signalized intersection at Tucker Hill Lane, adding new one-way frontage roads within the project limits, and improving bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.
SH 71 serves as a major corridor for drivers traveling to and from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the City of Bastrop, and east to Houston. The $58.5 million project is part of a larger, corridor-wide effort to remove all traffic signals on SH 71 between Austin and Houston.
